4. Business: Home Based Business Resources
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

A home-based business can be a viable way to earn a living outside of a traditional office setting. It can also eventually outgrow the home, as Apple, Hershey, Mary Kay, and Ford found out over time. But until it does, visitors interested in starting a home based business or ensuring their existing one is operating legally, and hopefully profitably, should peruse this U.S. government website with resources and a community forum for the home based business owner.

The website's homepage has a link entitled "Small Business Start-Up Assessment", to a short start-up assessment exercise that scores visitor's responses, provides an assessment, and gives suggested next steps, using the Small Business Administration's resources.

There is also the link entitled "Home Based Business...Is it For Me?" which provides information about financing, scams, and business structures. Some of the other essential topics visitors can look into are "Zoning Laws for Home Based Businesses", "Buying a Work-at-Home Franchise", and "Marketing a Home-Based Business". Visit this site.

11. Education: Atlas of the Human Body

The American Medical Association (AMA) has a number of fine educational resources available on their website, and this Atlas of the Human Body is quite a stand-out selection. Visitors to the site can look through simple and effective diagrams of the circulatory system, the brain, the torso, the female reproductive system, and others.

Each diagram and rendering contains a brief discussion of the system in question, along with a selection of related information on the left-hand side of the page. The section titled "Effects of Stroke" is quite effective, and this site will be a useful resource for the general public, medical professionals, and others working in related fields. 12. Education: Virtual Museum of Optical Illusions
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The current exhibition in the Virtual Museum of Optical Illusions features metamorphic postcards. These are old postcards with drawings or paintings of people or mythological creatures. When they are viewed from different perspectives the subject is transformed into something new; according to the introduction presented here, metaphoric postcards became very popular in the late 1800s.

Visitors will find the exhibit is divided into categories of popular themes, including "The Couple and the Guest", "What's on Your Mind", and "Famous People". Visitors may find some of the pictures difficult to metamorphose, such as "Society" in the "About the Artists" section. Sometimes the metamorphosis comes quickly, but then the pre-metamorphosis picture is hard to see again. The "Being Inspired" theme shows the metamorphic postcard and the drawing or photograph by which it was inspired. Visit this site.

13. Travel & Education: History of Las Vegas
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Las Vegas (or "The Meadows" in Spanish) is a curious place, and it is not much of a stretch to say that it was transformed from a sleepy railroad town into a ring-a-ding swinging town in just a few decades during the 20th century. The Las Vegas Sun has gone above and beyond the call of duty by crafting a site that presents a multimedia-rich experience that narrates the history of this rather unique American city.

Visitors should start their journey here by watching one or all eleven parts of their "Boomtown" video on the history of the town. Then visitors may want to take a look at the interactive map of the "Strip", which tells the fortunes of casinos and other buildings, past, present, and future, which have graced this notable region of mega-structures amidst the desert. After that, visitors should look at the "12 Voices from the Past" area. Voices like casino owner Benny Binion and former Nevada governor Mike O'Callaghan are featured here and it's a great trip back through the city's varied past. Visit this site.
