Interest in the election results within various African nations continues to grow, and the African Elections Project is a great source of information on this timely topic. The Project is coordinated by the International Institute for ICT Journalism and a number of additional partners, such as the Open Society Initiative for West Africa and Global Voices. The material on the site is available in both French and English, and currently it covers Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Malawi, and Niger. Within each country profile, visitors can view the results of recent elections, take a look at relevant weblogs, learn about the various political parties in each country, and also view past news updates. Additionally, visitors can sign up to receive email updates or RSS feeds. Visit this site.

More than 200 of the Western Cape's most influential business stakeholders have gathered to discuss the future of the Cape Town city region (CTCR). The indaba, facilitated by business organization Accelerate Cape Town, was called Vision 2030 as the focus was on developing a plan for the CTCR 20 years after the FIFA World Cup in 2010, with the goal of being regarded as "Africa's global city: a city of inspiration and innovation" by 2030. This is a personal report from Kevin Courtney of California, but is a typical situation of many who live in the USA. Our reporter received this reply from Kevin, "A year ago last Friday; I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Formerly blasé about my health care, I suddenly became one of the neediest guys on the planet." What does the future hold for Kevin? To read the full report, go to our NEWS DESK link.

8. Education: British Library & National Library of Medicine
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Working together with the British Library, the National Library of Medicine created this delightful digitized collection of "rare and beautiful" historical books in the biomedical sciences. The website is designed to complement their physical kiosks at the Library, and they have done a remarkable job with this project.

The site contains six important texts, including Hieronymus Brunschwig's Liber de Arte Distillandi, a crucial work from 1521 on chemical, alchemical, and distillation devices. Actually, this volume is a good place to start one's explorations, and visitors will find that "turning" the digital pages is quite easy. After getting their feet wet, users can move on to look over Robert Hooke's Micrographia and Vesalius' seminal work, De Humani Corporis Fabrica."
