While nothing will ever replace the face-to-face experience of direct medical care and training, certain skills can be gained by reviewing high- quality instructional and training videos on such topics.

This resource from the University of Exeter's College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences was designed to help interested parties learn about patient- centered care and the psychology involved with patient care. In the section titled Psychology in Patient Care, visitors can view six different videos that deal with topics such as first impressions, assumptions, boundaries, and managing aggressions. The material here follows Emma, a student radiographer, on her first clinical placement. Moving along, the second section (The Patient's View) presents Vera, "a remarkable and courageous lady," talking in clips titled "A question of dignity" and "Going the extra mile." Visit this site.

We have recently received so many requests to highlight the City of Manchester, England, in our Newsletter, we have finally succumbed to the demand.

Manchester is situated in the south-central part of North West England, fringed by the Cheshire Plain to the south and the Pennines to the north and east. The recorded history of Manchester began with the civilian settlement associated with the Roman fort of Mamucium, which was established in c. 79 AD on a sandstone bluff near the confluence of the rivers Medlock and Irwell. 10. Education & News: Newspapers That Have Changed the World
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The Manchester Guardian (UK) first appeared 190 years ago (now known simply as The Guardian). It was a weekly paper comprising just four pages and priced at a steep 7d. This was the severest of payments and the initial circulation was just 1,000, soaring to 3,000 by the mid-1820s. Its appearance coincided with the death of Napoleon on Saint Helena, but his passing wasn't even mentioned in the paper for several weeks, so slowly did news then travel. Visit this site.

Editor's Note: Our editorial staff have for over 40 years, read and researched news coming out from the Manchester Guardian newspaper on a daily basis, and we still recommend this as a leading source of accurate information related to British and World News. Visit our World News Page which is visited by 1000's readers on a daily basis.

Diplomacy in the Early Islamic World -A Tenth-century Treatise on Arab-Byzantine Relations ~ by Maria Vaiou

Arab messengers played a vital role in the medieval Islamic world and its diplomatic relations with foreign powers. An innovative treatise from the 10th Century ("Rusul al-Muluk", "Messengers of Kings") is perhaps the most important account of the diplomacy of the period, and it is here translated into English for the first time.

"Rusul al-Muluk" draws on examples from the Qur'an and other sources which extend from the period of al-jahiliyya to the time of the 'Abbasid caliph al-Mu'tasim In the only medieval Arabic work which exists on the conduct of messengers and their qualifications, the author Ibn al-Farr rejects jihadist policies in favor of quiet diplomacy and a pragmatic outlook of constructive realpolitik. "Rusul al-Muluk" is an extraordinarily important and original contribution to our understanding of the early Islamic world and the field of International Relations and Diplomatic History.
